Pet Portraits

My goal when creating portraits is to capture the spirit and personality of the subject. I specialize in equines, but do dogs and cats as well, and work mainly with ink, watercolor, and pencil as my mediums. Check out the steps below to request a one-of-a-kind portrait of your horse or pet!

For more examples of my artwork, check out my ink portraits in the gallery.

Step 1: Reach out! You can contact me via the contact form on my website or at autumnwallartist@gmail.com to request a commission of your horse or pet.

Step 2: Choose the type of portrait you would like (eg. Ink or Ink & Watercolor) and the size.

Step 3: Choose the photo of your pet to be used as a reference. Clear, high resolution photos are best. Before choosing your picture reference, please refer to the photo guide below.

Step 4: After you have chosen the size/medium/photo, we can discuss further details of the portrait, such as backgrounds (if choosing Ink & Watercolor option) and any other specific ideas you have.

Step 5: Once we have worked out all of the details of the portrait, it’s time to book your order. A 30% deposit is due before I start work on the portrait. The remaining balance plus shipping costs will be due upon completion of your artwork prior to shipping.

Time frame: It usually takes me about 2-4 weeks to complete a portrait, depending on the size and details, etc. If you're intending the portrait as a gift for someone and need it by a certain date, please let me know. Feel free to keep in touch throughout the process and ask questions.

Photo guide:

My portraits are created using digital photos of my client’s horse or pet as a reference. Good quality photos are ideal for creating the best likeness of your fury friend.

Key points to consider when choosing a photo of your pet:
-The photo is in focus.
-Good lighting; natural daylight or outdoor lighting is best.
-Photos taken at the same eye level as your pet are ideal. Angling up or down on them with the camera could distort their proportions, which will also carry over to the drawn portrait.

Please note that these are just guidelines. The most important thing is for you to choose a picture of your pet that you love and that captures everything you adore about them.

Framing:
Portraits do not include a frame, unless specifically requested. I do not provide specialty frames.

Upon request, I will frame the portrait in a standard 1” black frame made from hardwood and with glass on the front.
+$15-30 (depending on the size of the portrait.)

Accepted payment methods: PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App
